Wintel Operations Engineer

Position Summary:

Chubb is seeking an experienced Wintel Operations Engineer to join our growing Distributed IT Operations team. The Wintel Operations Engineer will provide support for on-premises and Azure based Microsoft Windows Server systems. The Wintel Operations Engineer would require a minimum 5+ years of directly related experience supporting Microsoft Windows operations.

Seeking motivated technical professionals who specialize in providing support for enterprise level Microsoft Systems and related services, focusing on stability and performance. The position holder will be primarily focused on performing operational functions of Chubb’s Windows Systems environment; activities include but not limited to support and maintenance, monitoring, alerting, availability, and recovery.

Primary Job Responsibilities:


Investigation and diagnosis of incidents and problems relating to Microsoft Windows Server Operating System stack.

Participate in a follow the sun operational model supporting and maintaining the Windows Server environment for North and Latin America systems (expanding globally throughout the year).

Provide on-call and after-hours support to address incidents, maintain the Windows Server systems infrastructure and support operational efforts.

Provide training and mentorship to junior team members. Train team members in best practices and act as subject matter expert and escalation contact for infrastructure related issues.

Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs.

Analyze, authorize, and implement system resource requests.

Define the capacity and performance standards, metrics and thresholds and help build the instrumentation to effectively manage the environment.

Collaborate with other technology support teams to ensure integrated end-to-end availability, reliability, and performance.

Create and maintain system documentation for Windows technologies, including installation, configuration, and appropriate troubleshooting steps.

Implement and manage Ansible Playbooks and Microsoft SCCM package deployments for configuration and software management of the server environment.

Implement common preventive maintenance practices for hardware and software.

Ensure that system improvements and changes are implemented and monitor effects of the modifications.

Help identify and manage risks within the Windows server platform.

Produce and maintain operational documentation, understanding and tools to effectively manage the Windows server platform.

Assist in the development and execution of disaster recovery plans.

Participate in change, incident, and problem management.


Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:


Extensive and recent support experience in supporting virtualized Windows Server operating systems and technologies in a global multi-data center enterprise organization.

Advanced knowledge and experience with Windows server operating systems (Windows 2012, 2016, 2019, 2022).

In-depth knowledge and experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, SCCM, etc.).

In-depth knowledge of WinRM, PowerShell, and other scripting abilities.

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Security technologies, including Share and NTFS permissions, and file system utilities such as robocopy, treesize, and File Server Resource Manager.

In-depth knowledge of DNS, DHCP, WINS, DFS, in a Windows server environment.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Domain technologies including GPOs, OUs, LDAP, Security Policies, Trusts, and Directory Replication.

In-depth knowledge of Windows Clustering technologies especially supporting Microsoft SQL Always-On Availability Group clustering from a Windows Operating System perspective.

Working knowledge and experience with VMware virtualization hypervisors (VMware vSphere 7.x, 8.x, vCenter) a plus.

Knowledge of Quest Product Suite - Active Roles Server (ARS), Reporter, Change Auditor, Recovery Manager for Active Directory Forest Edition (RMAD FE) a plus.

Strong critical thinking and problem-solving, and the ability to debug complex-cross systems problems, and document root cause including remediation and detection.

Knowledge of risk and controls landscape, ensuring company-wide standards are met.

Fundamental understanding of network security practices.

Self-driven with the ability to manage workload without direct supervision.

Ability to collaborate with different technology towers to achieve common goals.

Ability to manage multiple stands of work simultaneously.
