We currently have an immediate need for a Commodity Manager


About the Role: The Commodity Manager is responsible for the Management and coordination of the Fabricated Metals and Plastics suppliers of products and/or assemblies used in Aviat Networks’ products. Consolidate and update the preferred supplier base for continuous supplier quality and competitive pricing in support of Aviat’s goals and objectives.


Responsibilities:

  • Focal point for management/coordination with all groups (Planning, Engineering, Manufacturing) deriving the optimal supplier selection based on total cost of ownership.
  • Assist in the establishment of supplier selection and development activities related to New Product Introduction (NPI), Prototype and Production business. Supplier selection and development activities encompass all aspects of the supply chain including price, lead time, inventory levels, sales support, logistics, tariffs, and life cycle management.
  • Responsibilities include:
  • Achieve savings and other key metrics aligned with corporate goals.
  • Market monitoring and trend update.
  • Regular business reviews with key suppliers.
  • Identify and cultivate new suppliers for total cost reduction opportunities.
  • Identifying and managing programs for cost reduction/localization of preferred supplier(s) suited with customers’ needs for localization.
  • Initiate supplier quality management/improvements. Ratings, measurements, delivery vs. quality, etc. Acquisition of supplier in-process data, evaluating process capability, arranging regular status conference calls etc. Timely reporting of vendor performance for improvement.
  • Ship to stock program or reduction of control points reducing dock to stock time, etc to shorten lead-time.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related field and minimum 10 years direct experience
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and markets related to the following commodities: electronic and mechanical components, and accessories; value-add assembly; and freight and logistics
  • Working knowledge of quality management such as CQE, certified Lead Assessor of the Assessor for ISO 9000 is an added advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel required.
  • Conversational Japanese a plus
