Senior Design Engineer

Job description:

Mid-level Mechanical Design Engineer with a minimum of 10+ years of work experience in machine design to support design projects.

• Experience in packaging machinery – design and development of new, advanced, and updated mechanical systems for vertical packaging, flow wrapping, bag filling, and palletizing machinery and product feed systems is mandatory.

Mandatory Skills:

• Packaging machinery design experience .
• Good understanding of packaging machine functions and design principles.
• E xperience with complex machine and/or system design using state of the art CAD and analysis tools (SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent).
• Familiar with Electrical / Controls / Pneumatics and hydraulics basics.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and able to learn new applications without difficulty.
• Field experience in installation and/or troubleshooting.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Research and prepare product/machine specifications.
• Design responsibility for individual components to complete integrated machine systems.
• Partner with customers and sales executives, other mechanical and electrical design engineers, manufacturing personnel and customer service technicians.
• Develops engineering models and/or drawings (using company standards and tools) including Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Project reporting, tracking and organization.
• Performs continuous improvement/cost reductions on machines and options.
• Performs risk assessments for specific machines and/or options.
• Creates documentation needed to approve the quality of machinery/options.
• Participates in sales meetings to describe product-related issues and ongoing work.
• Participates in customer meetings to discuss specific machine layouts, specifications, etc.
• Train Customer Service, Production Engineering and Customer on machine setup, operation, and maintenance.
• Dealing with Ambiguity: effectively cope with change; shift gears comfortably; decide and act without having the total picture; comfortably handle risk and uncertainty.
• Performs all commitments/tasks in a timely and professional manner.

Technical skills:

• Industry specific machine design experience:
• Packaging Machines - Vertical packaging, flow wrapping, bag filling, and palletizing machinery and product feed systems are mandatory.
• Experience in materials, component selection, and general machine shop processes.
• Experience with Power transmission, pneumatics, and mechanism design.
• Knowledgeable in selection of mechanical OEM parts (sprockets, belts, etc.).
• 3D CAD modelling and detailing engineering – should be able to create 3D modeling and 2D manufacturing drawings applying GD&T principles.
• Experience in CAD data management using PDM / PLM software.
• Adherence to CAD standards – ISO, ANSI, experience in MBD will be an added advantage.
• Should have worked on at least couple of engineering projects from start to finish (Scope, Specification, Idea, Concept Engineering and Cross-functional team experience.
