About the role
We are seeking a seasoned Furniture Designer with a passion for finding solutions that allow customers to intuitively use our products. The ideal candidate will be skilled at each stage of the design process.
What You Will Be Doing
- Developing prototypes of designs using computer-assisted design (CAD) software and other design tools such as digital drawing boards or drafting tables.
- Creating models of new designs for testing in physical simulations testing the practicality and functionality.
- Working very closely with the interior design and architecture teams to translate their vision and references into actual products.
- Liaising with individual craftsmen, or with various departments of the company: marketing, production, supply and sales, regarding the process of manufacture.
- Understand the different types of materials that can be used to create furniture.
- Planning the design and selecting suitable materials including wood, metal, plastic or textiles.
- Taking into account issues such as cost, market trends, demand, materials and manufacturing methods and techniques and safety.
- Meeting with suppliers to select materials that meet the designer’s requirements for quality and cost.
- Testing how well the model stands up to wear and tear and then solving any problems.
- Stay up to date on current industry trends and market conditions.
What You Bring To The Table
- Graduate degree or equivalent level in design or related fields
- 10 to 15 years’ experience as a Furniture Designer/ Industrial Designer/Interior Designer
- Expansive knowledge of materials, their application and inherent nature (Knowledge of wood, metal, glass, upholstery a must)
- Confident with the different tools and machinery used to bring products to life
- Technical and ergonomic expertise
- Well versed with different finishes and textures and finishing processes on the different materials used
- Knowledge and familiarity of the entire production process (from in inception to construction to delivery)
- Experienced AutoCAD Designer with a demonstrated history of working in the furniture industry, In-depth knowledge of furniture, fabrics, color, design, mill-work and finishes.
- Proficient in catalogue making and handling software like AutoCAD/Rhino 3D/3D Studio Max/Photoshop
