The IT Professor plays a crucial role in shaping the future of information technology by educating and

inspiring students in various aspects of IT including programming, networking, cybersecurity,

databases and emerging technologies. This position involves teaching, curriculum development,

research and academic leadership within the IT department of an educational institution.


Roles and Responsibilities:

 Teaching:

Delivering engaging lectures, workshops and seminars on IT topics to undergraduate and/or graduate students.

Designing course materials, syllabus, assignments, and assessments to facilitate student learning and achievement of learning outcomes.

Providing constructive feedback to students and supporting their academic and professional development.


 Curriculum Development:

Updating and revising existing courses to incorporate advancements in IT and align with industry standards and best practices.

Developing new courses or programs in response to emerging trends and technologies in the IT field.

Integrating hands-on, experiential learning opportunities, such as lab exercises, projects, and internships, into the curriculum.


 Research:

Conducting research in specialised areas of IT and contributing to the academic body of knowledge through publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, and other scholarly activities.

Collaborating with colleagues, industry partners, and research institutions on interdisciplinary projects and grants.


 Academic Leadership:

Participating in departmental meetings, committees, and faculty governance activities to contribute to the strategic direction and continuous improvement of the IT department.

Mentoring and advising students on academic and career matters, including course selection, internships, and job opportunities.

Engaging in outreach activities to promote the IT program, recruit students, and foster partnerships with industry stakeholders.


 Professional Development:

Keeping abreast of developments and trends in IT education, research and industry by attending conferences, workshops, and professional development activities.

Pursuing professional certifications and credentials relevant to the field of IT education and teaching methodologies.


Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 to 3 years of work experience as an IT Teacher.
  • Bachelors degree in B.Sc IT and B.ED or a related field.
  • Experience with project-based learning, experiential education, or competency-based education models.
  • Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level including course development and assessment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in education and the workplace.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary academic environment.
