Assistant / Associate Professor : Fashion Communication Design

Indian Institute of Art and Design (IIAD) is seeking qualified candidates for the positions of Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Fashion Communication to teach Fashion Visual Communication and Media & Production in the Fashion landscape. The Department of Fashion Communication at IIAD delivers comprehensive education through a project based learning system that strengthens our students to think laterally and build strong context around projects. The ideal candidate needs to nurture the educational ethos in the Fashion Communication landscape. Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's or postgraduate degree, in Fashion Design/ Fashion Communication or Graphic Design from a recognized design institution, with specialised expertise in the relevant field. Minimum academic or industry experience of 7 years for Assistant Professors and 10 years for Associate Professors. Candidates with teaching experience will be preferred. Proficiency in design research, design processes, and practices, demonstrating practical experience within the broader discipline will be an added advantage. Specialisation 1 : Fashion Visual Communication: Graphic Design/Brand Design Skills and Competencies: Expertise in Typography: Demonstrated proficiency in typography principles and application across various Fashion projects. Form Development and Visualization: Ability to conceptualise and develop visually appealing forms that convey messages effectively, coupled with proficiency in teaching visualisation techniques to enhance students abilities in creating compelling Fashion visual narratives. Brand and Visual Identity Design: Demonstrated expertise in creating Fashion brand identities that resonate with target audiences across digital and physical platforms, along with proficiency in designing cohesive visual identity systems that ensure brand consistency and recognition. Publication Design : Experience in creating publication and print mediums along with strong understanding in Print techniques. Understanding of Marketing Concepts : Bonus proficiency in fashion marketing concepts to align design strategies with business objectives. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite : Essential practical experience in utilising Adobe. Creative Suite tools for graphic design projects. Role and Responsibilities: Develop and deliver engaging curriculum content for visual communication courses, covering topics such as graphic design, fashion brand Design and communication, Publication, web and new media. The Background of experience should come from the Fashion industry. Building Visual Communication from a Fashion Design Context is a necessity. Conduct interactive lectures, hands-on workshops, critiques, and projects to facilitate student learning and skill development in visual communication. Provide constructive feedback, guidance, and mentorship to students to support their academic and professional growth in the field of Fashion Communication. Updated on fashion design industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in visual communication, graphic design, branding, and UI/UX design. Have the aptitude to fashion forecast emerging trends, relate subject matter and flexibly update the curriculum content. Collaborate with colleagues and industry professionals to enhance the relevance and effectiveness of the visual communication program. Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation activities to ensure program quality and alignment with educational standards. Introduce career opportunities in relevant industries for students like - Live industry projects, industry internships, graduating projects, employment and other forms of professional engagements. Specialisation 2: Assistant/Associate Professor - Media and Production - Fashion Communication. Skills and Competencies: Expertise in Fashion Photography: Demonstrated proficiency in all fashion related photography. Expertise in Fashion Videos/ Audio visuals: Demonstrated proficiency in film making and fashion related motion visuals. Proficiency in photo retouching - Experience in Editing post processing images Principles of Photography and film making: Formal knowledge in principles and fundamentals of Photography and film making Video Editing: Proficiency in video editing and strong understanding of industry relating editing techniques. Production application for Fashion Shoots: Proven experience in large budget production and understanding of industry level requirements. Role and Responsibilities: Develop and deliver comprehensive curriculum content on media courses, covering topics such as photography, cinematography, film production, post-production editing, and media buying strategies. Conduct engaging lectures, hands-on workshops, practical demonstrations, and critiques to facilitate student learning and skill development in media production. Provide personalised guidance, feedback, and mentorship to students to support their academic and professional growth in the media field. Stay abreast of fashion industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in photography, filmmaking and post-production. Collaborate with fellow educators and industry professionals to enhance the relevance and effectiveness of Fashion Communication. Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation activities to ensure program quality and alignment with educational standards. Strong background in Fashion photography and filmmaking, with expertise in production techniques, equipment operation, and storytelling principles. Proficiency in post-production processes, including video editing, colour grading, sound design, and visual effects. Familiarity with industry-standard editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and Adobe After Effects. Knowledge and experience in the media industry, including advertising strategies, audience targeting, campaign optimization, and performance analysis. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to mentor and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels. Commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with fashion industry trends and advancements.
