Role Overview

This role is within the Keyloop Network Engineering team which has responsibility for network design, engineering, standards, solution consulting and the escalated Incident Management (L3/L3.5) of Keyloop’s network and network security infrastructure.

The team’s primary role is to engineer networks and solutions within and between Keyloop’s hosting environments, corporate (i.e. employee) sites, supported customer premises, public cloud and SaaS service providers.

Keyloop currently manages around 2,500 external domains, and this role is primarily focussed on the design, build and management of Keyloop’s internal and external DNS infrastructure and services. The position also has accountability for Keyloop’s NTP infrastructure.

The ideal candidate would also bring network design & engineering experience. Therefore, knowledge and expertise of routing, switching, wireless, firewalls and load balancing would be desirable. But broad and deep DNS expertise, on-premise and in public cloud is the fundamental requirement.

Key duties

  • Design and deploy DNS & NTP infrastructures and services supporting internal and external requirements.
  • Define, implement, document and manage associated operations and support processes in conjunction with the infrastructure operations team.
  • Develop and manage standards and design templates for network infrastructure and services.
  • Manage and maintain network infrastructure documentation to agreed standards.
  • Develop and maintain network infrastructure deployment and management processes.
  • Provide consulting for major/complex customer and business projects.
  • Escalation point to assist troubleshooting and resolution of chronic and complex issues.
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of new and emerging technologies that could benefit the services and network products that Keyloop uses and provides to its customers.
  • Work as part of global team, and in partnership with infrastructure and software teams to design and implement network infrastructure in datacentres, employee sites, public cloud and in support of customer deployments.
  • Support the selection of products and partners for integration in the structure and delivery of network services and infrastructure.
  • Provide infrastructure and support documentation and training to Networks Engineering and Operations teams.
  • Work extended hours where necessary and undertake other duties that may reasonably be requested.

Key experience

Good knowledge, understanding and experience is required as follows:

  • Key DNS technologies and standards (BIND, Microsoft, f5 DNS, Route53, etc), and their optimal deployment and application in different internal and external environments. Including as part of SaaS deployments.
  • Cloud-based DNS services, including infrastructure as code tools and methodologies to manage and provision DNS services.
  • DNS integration with IPAM platforms. For example SolarWinds.
  • NTP infrastructure and services.
  • ITIL processes.

The ideal candidate would also bring knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Routing and switching technologies and protocols.
  • Virtualisation technologies and cloud services.
  • f5 and NGINX Load Balancing and services.
  • Firewalls, proxy, network security, IDS & IPS.
  • Design, build and support of large-scale, complex and highly available infrastructure and services to and within datacentres, employee sites and connectivity to external Business Partners and customer SaaS environments.
  • SolarWinds monitoring and tools.
  • Monitoring/reporting tools – e.g. Prometheus, Graylog, Grafana.
  • Capacity planning, QoS, and intelligent/optimal path selection.
  • Designing, configuring and troubleshooting VoIP, VPNs, encryption technologies and firewalls.
  • Experience in Operations and Engineering roles, including positions of responsibility across large, complex global infrastructures.
  • Application of network automation and scripting tools.
  • Linux scripting, cron task scheduling & management.
  • Docker.
  • SQL.

Desirable

  • Formal Cisco certification at a level of CCNP or CCIE is not specifically required. Most important is a demonstrable and deep understanding of DNS, and its application in large and complex business environments and public cloud. However formal network engineering and operations qualifications would be an advantage.
  • This is primarily an engineering role; however the ideal candidate should bring experience in both operations and design/engineering roles.
